Meet our little girl!
Maya Lucia was born Thrusday March 25, 9:48PM. She was 5 lbs 12oz and 19” long.
It all started on Tuesday. We received a phone call from Jane at the adoption agency. They wanted to tell us about a birth mom. We had been told about many situations and were excited to hear about another.
Lucia is 18 years old ¾ Hispanic, and ¼ Italian. She lives in Bakersfield CA with the birth dad and his family. They have a 2 year old daughter already. Lucia is 5'4” and 130 lbs, has brown hair, brown eyes and a medium completion. She describes herself as calm sweet not aggressive, but not shy. She is very beautiful.
Alfonzo is 19 and is very supportive with this placement. He is Hispanic, 5'6” and 150 lbs. He has dark brown hair and eyes. He's a happy guy that loves to play soccer, and so does Lucia.
Jane let us know that they didn't know the babies gender, and that she was due either April 16 or May 30. At her last ultrasound appointment the baby was too big to tell the gender. Lucia didn't know she was pregnant until she was about 32 weeks along.
We were extremely excited about this situation, with everyone supportive of the placement. I was also hesitant and didn't want to get our hopes up. We told Jane we would love to commit to this situation, and that we would love to go visit her as soon as we can (“This weekend if possible”).
On Wednesday I over nighted Lucia our profile and she was also excited to meet us. She didn't want to have the introduction conversation over the phone, but instead meet in person.
Things were arranged so we would leave Thursday at 6:00 PM MST and we would both take Friday off. As I was preparing to depart, we received a call from Jane, at about 5:00, letting us know that earlier Lucia had gone to the hospital because she was having contractions. Jane recommended that we take our car seat and supplies, just in case.
We loaded up the car with our baby boy stuff, and were on our way, when we got another call, letting us know that the Dr sent her home and scheduled an appointment for next Tuesday, if nothing happens.
Just past Ceder City (about 9:00 MST), we got a call from Denise (birth mom case worker for agency). Letting us know that she is back at the hospital because her water broke. She said that she will most likely have the baby tonight or tomorrow morning. Now things were getting exciting and nearveracking all at the same time... We were planning this trip to California to meet with Lucia, and were now preparing to possibly bring home our baby.
My little sister Ashley had her baby girl Thrusday as well, and in the car we joked, wouldn't it be funny to have both babies on the same day... Ha! Ha! Ha! What are the odds?
Finally at 11:30 PM MST, and almost to Las Vegas, we received a call from Jane letting us know that Lucia had a baby girl!!! OUR BABY GIRL. She was born 9:48 PM PST, 5 lbs 12 oz, 19” long. How exciting!!! We were so elated and couldn't believe it. It didn't seem real.
We drove for as long as we could, without being dangerous. We ended up outside of Vegas. Woke up early and started on our way to meet our new little girl.
We got into Bakersfield at about 12:00 PM.
We finally got to the hospital and found Lucia. What a sweetheart! She is so amazing. She is sweet kind, out going, and smiles all the time. She has a personality that would charm anyone.
Then there is our little Maya Lucia!! What a gem. She is amazing, she is quiet and tranquil and we were with her about 7 hours, and only heard her wimper twice, but that was because we changed her diaper.
We are grateful for the beautiful baby we have received and all the blessings that we have been given! The lord has blessed us more than we could have ever thought!
Paperwork is complete, but because Maya was born in California we are required by law to wait for CA and UT to communicate and hope to be headed home later this week.
Thank you to all those who have prayed for us in our exciting, and emotional roller coaster!!
Love to all!
