We were asked to watch Amelie, the French film, and define the 3 main colors used in the film and why we thought they were used. The three main colors that I found the movie used were green red and gold. Green and gold were used as lighting and the red was an accent color that was in clothing, cabinets, and other miscellaneous objects.
I feel that the green lighting was used to describe peace, happiness and fond memories. It also was the predominate color in describing what Amelie likes to do, as well as her curiosity. Gold was used to show sadness, and worrisome emotions. It also showed intensity and seriousness.
Red was used in almost every scene. Many times it was used to point out the focal point in the shot. It was used many times as an intense color to make you notice it above any other color, which were mostly muted colors. I did notice in one scene that Amelie was using a muted red and Nino (I think is his name) had on a highly saturated red, to make him more noticeable.
I found interesting how much these three different colors can change the emotion that I, the viewer, feels while watching a specific scene. It would have been a dramatically different movie if the film makers would have used other colors.
