Maya - November

This has been a month of reflecting on what we are grateful for. Always at the top of our list is little Maya and the joy and wonder she has brought into our lives.

I have been thinking about other characteristics besides the normal items.

Maya has sparkling bright brown eyes, especially when she smiles
Both thumbs are double jointed
Her hair is dark and strait. The hairs in the back stand strait up, I must use hair gel or water to keep it down. It is now long enough to put a small rubber band to create a “Pebbles” Flinstone hairdo.
She has a cute birthmark on her left elbow. It looks like a small lima bean
Her fingers are long, and the nails grow super fast. Its hard to keep them short so she doesn't scratch herself and us.

Things she is learning and developing

Maya is a momma's girl. When I am at home she wants to be with me.
She has started rolling font to back both ways right and left, and I think she is learning the value of it. (Getting toys or other things.
Maya loves electronics. Her favorite things to play with are the cell phones, remotes and cables. If we are using them, she wants to too.
We play patty cake and she doesn't want to stop. She can almost clap her hands together herself.
She has started pulling herself up onto things (just yesterday, and learned the hard way to sit back down (bump on head.)
Maya loves to kick. When excited, happy, sad, crying, tired... We took her to a hot springs, put her in a life jacket and she kicked all the way around it. She's going to be a great soccer player and probably a great swimmer!!
She loves baths, we gave her the first “Big Girl” bath without the baby tub. She is in heaven when she is in the water.
She can drink from a sippy cup. We had to try a few to find one that she liked, but success!!
She loves to smile. Any excuse she gets, she smiles, laughs or giggles.
I believe she is a thinker. She concentrates so hard on certain things.
I think she is learning about her tongue. She clicks it and sticks it in and out.
When she is drinking her bottle at night, she likes to hold my fingers. She especially likes to pinch the tops.
She loves her jumper. She has learned how to play with the various activities around it. She can now twist and turn to get to them. Instead of jumping up and down, she likes to jump side to side.
She can now play on her own. She will find a toy and distract herself for 20-30 minutes at a time.
My favorite this month is that she has learned how to kiss. When we make the kissy noises, she will pucker her lips (sometimes tongue out) and lean in for the kiss. Super cute!
We can always tell that Maya is done eating, or doesn't want more milk because she will press her lips tightly together, or pucker them, and turn her head away.
When putting her to bed, we know she is ready to stay asleep when she rolls to her side.
This month we took her bowling twice, Maya seemed to enjoy herself
She is such a dare devil. She loves to be upside down, thrown up in the air, and her new trick is that she loves to roll off the couch (I am there to catch her)
Maya is SOOO ticklish. Belly, back and especially under the chin.
She has found her lips with her fingers and likes to strum them like a guitar to make noises.
She is still a talker, sometimes she really really wants to be the loudest person in the room.
She puts everything into her mouth, I mean EVERYTHING
Maya loves to scratch fabric, and various surfaces, she likes to hear the noises, and feel the textures.

Fun things that Maya does this month.

When she is done eating she puckers her lips and closes them tight so you can't get the bottle in again.
She has started eating more solid foods, she has eaten some corn curnels, green beans, carrots, bananas, as well as continuing to eat her baby food. Her favorite is corn and sweet potatoes together. She loves Vegetable and eats everything that has been given to her.
She is a smiler, every chance she gets, she has a smile on her face.
She is very curious, she wants to know about everything.
She now recognizes when we leave the room, and starts to cry when we aren't around.
She has become really ticklish and she loves to be tickled.
She is now recognizes different kinds of music. Classical music is very calming for her and helps fall asleep in the car. Singing to her also calms her down.
She truly loves being outside. Anytime that she is sad she can be cheered up by going for a walk outside.

She is now becoming more opinionated about things and like to let us know when she doesn't like something.

6 month dr. apointment

We went to our 6 month dr appointment on Oct 6, 2010.

Length: 26.8" 90%

Weight: 17lbs 15 oz 90%

Head Circ: 42.4cm 50%

She is healthy and on track. Responds to her name, rolls from front to back, and back to front, Holds her weight with her legs, Sits up with out assistance.

Temple Sealing

On October 1 2010 at 7:00 PM we had the privileged to seal Maya to us and become an eternal family at the Timpanogus Temple.

On September 29th at 8:30 am we went to the Provo Courthouse and we were able to legally finalize the adoption. We met with a Lawyer and judge to make it official. Boy does it feel good to have it final!

September Fun Stuff...

Wow does time fly. It's been 6 months since our little angel Maya was born. We have been so blessed to have her as a part of our family.

Her bottom two teeth have been growing in, and are almost all the way there.
She loves to play with her teeth. She will rub the bottom of her tongue over the teeth, and stick out her tongue, or her bottom lip over her teeth,
She has started to recognize her name, and when we call it, she will turn her head.
She has expanded her eating items. She now will eat squash, green beans, carrots and corn, and will tolerate peas (still not her favorite)
She has started to recognize repetition. She knows that when she is in her bumbo, she will be eating, or when she is in her crib she should be sleeping, or on the changing table, that her diaper will be changed.
She always has a smile on her face when I come home from work.
She has started to roll over. If we put something just out or reach and above her head. She can roll from her back to her stomach.
So cute, she has started to fake cough.
In the morning (or the middle of the night) when you go to get her out of bed, she normally has a big smile on her face and is so excited to see us.
When she is lying on her back, she loves to kick her legs. She sometimes kicks so hard that I think she is going to bruise her heals, or stand up.
She will lie in bed for hours playing by her self until she is ready to get up.
She loves to talk and tell stories. She mostly says bababab, or dadadada or mmmmmm. Sometimes mamamama.
I definitely think we have a talker on our hands. Even if no sounds are coming out of her mouth, she is still moving it (like an old woman with no teeth).
She loves to laugh, and smile.
She has started grabbing and eating her toes.
Loves to be around other children. Especially when they are running and playing. She laughs hysterically when they jump up and down for her.
She is now grabbing everything and putting it into her mouth. EVERYTHING. Her favorites seem to be our cell phones, and her toy giraffe.
She sometimes concentrates so hard on the object in her hands, almost as she is memorized by the object. Touching it softly, grabbing different angles. I wonder what she is thinking.
She seems to only be able to hold one thing at a time, and needs both hands to “investigate”. When you try and show her another object for the other hand, she will drop the first to hold the second.
Jumping, she loves to jump. We got her a little play yard, and she now loves to play in it for a long time. She will jump so high sometimes we think she is going to get herself out of it. Even when we are holding her in our laps, she jumps.
She has started playing. When Dan comes to tickle her and I am holding her, she recognizes and flinches away smiling, anticipating the fun.
She now opens her mouth wanting either her food or her binkey.
